Today is off to the beautiful Palace of Versailles. We met in the lobby at 9:00 and headed off on a 45 minute bus ride. Paris traffic is something you must experience to believe. I am surprised there are not more accidents. They seem to know what they are doing though.
When we arrived at the Palace, we first toured the gardens. They are gorgeous. Everything was designed so that the view from the palace windows would be exquisite. The view from the ground sure was! After the gardens, we toured the King's Hall, then the Hall of Mirrors, then the Queen's hall. There are only a few original pieces in the Palace. After the revolution, everything was auctioned off dirt cheap. The French government is trying to buy things back, but the price has skyrocketed.
After our tour of the palace we took a tram, some actually walked, to the gardens for lunch. Lunch was at a restaurant called La Flotille. Meal was very good, especially the dessert wheich was a Pear Tart. Next was the bicycle tour of the garden. Considering that I haven't been on a bike since 1983, I actually didn't do half bad! I didn't fall once!!! After the bike tour, we headed back to the hotel to rest until our farewell party tonight. I probably won't post again until tomorrow, when I will be in Barcelona!
